/ / Arts Education For Children

An arts education is important to the children of our community because it inspires them to dream big dreams, to be authentically who they are, and to develop self-confidence and a caring attitude for others. It provides the foundation for children to become healthy, well-rounded, confident individuals who are capable of tapping into a wealth of inner resources.

Vision

A vibrant arts community that nurtures talent and invests in opportunities for those it serves.

Mission

Promote the vital importance of arts education for children and secure the resources to make it happen.

/ / Inspiration

to breathe in, to envision, to imagine possibilities beyond one’s circumstances, to aspire toward one’s greatest potential. The Foundation invests in opportunities for children—their families and our community—to dream about and thus create hope-filled, productive, satisfying futures for themselves through the arts education.

/ / Self-Expression

This is a state of being where economic and social climate do not inhibit prolific social, cultural, or innovative change. The foundation invests in opportunities for children to become involved in a creative activity where they have an outlet to express their own cognition, feelings, interests, imagination or personality including but not limited to intellectual independence.

/ / Character

a collection of attributes that define ones behavior and personality. The foundation believes that exposure to and participation in the arts fosters qualities of confidence, self esteem and leadership in our children. Pride, acceptance and freedom to be one’s self are natural outcomes of artistic expression. The foundation invests in nurturing character that recognizes beauty and talent in one’s self and in others.

An arts education is important to the children of our community because it inspires them to dream big dreams, to be authentically who they are, and to develop self-confidence and a caring attitude for others. It provides the foundation for children to become healthy, well-rounded, confident individuals who are capable of tapping into a wealth of inner resources.

We know that arts education improves academic performance, particularly among students most at risk of academic failure. It improves conceptual skills, creative and critical thinking, spatial reasoning, reading, writing, language proficiency, and logic. It also improves self awareness and social skills, which diminish the impulse to act out and bully others.

There is an extraordinary breadth of students that attend Plumosa, both socio-economically and ethnically. Three quarters of the students qualify for subsidized meals.  The unique opportunity the school provides for creative self-expression and exploration bridges cultural gaps, builds students’ confidence, and opens their minds to discovering possibilities that they might not otherwise pursue.  This makes Plumosa uniquely effective in helping children develop competence, confidence, and character.

Your sponsorship will directly impact the school’s ability to provide these children with the best education—both academically and artistically.
